Can’t Get Google to Index Your Site?

Everybody wants to have their site show up in Google’s results, right? You won’t get listed in the results unless Google knows about your site, something that happens when Google visits your website and indexes it. Basically when Google indexes your website a copy of the website is recorded into Google’s servers.

A common occurrence for new webmasters is to get frustrated when Google fails to visit and index their newly created website. They will shout and curse and fume till they are red in the face and still Google doesn’t visit. They are forgetting about two simple steps to get their site indexed by Google.

  • Sign up for Google’s Webmaster Tools. It’s a free service and is easy to get started using. Once your website has been verified within Webmaster Tools, simply submit your sitemap (if you haven’t created one yet now’s the time to do it, there are many free sitemap generators online). Your sitemap is basically a list of the pages and categories of your website.
  • Within Google’s Webmaster Tools you are also able to ’suggest’ a rate at which Google crawls (visits) your website, if you want Google to visit frequently, select that option from within the ‘Settings’ section.

Use these two very basic steps to get a Google to visit and index your site. A lot of new (and some old) webmasters forget about this simple but effective method.
